Meet Matt

Matt began his life in public service when he enlisted in the United States Army in January of 2005.  In 2007 he deployed with the 2nd Infantry Division to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as an Infantry Fire Team Leader.  During his service, Matt was awarded the Purple Heart. After leaving active duty, he continued serving in the Colorado Army National Guard until 2012.

Matt joined the Weld County Sheriff’s Office in 2012 as an entry-level corrections officer. Over the years, he has served in various roles, including Public Information Officer, Detentions Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant in the Civil Unit, Detentions Lieutenant, and Detentions Captain. He currently serves as the Captain of the Administrative Division.

As Sheriff I Will

  • Increase efforts to combat drug crime in Weld County.
  • Increase efforts to arrest individuals with criminal warrants.
  • Increase physical and mental health resources for Sheriff’s Office personnel.
  • Adopt new technology to maintain a safe and secure jail environment.
  • Continue the fight to defend your 2nd amendment rights.
